Upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

Supposedly I can mount the Windows 7 .iso and upgrade directly to Windows 7 without having to reformat/reinstall. However, I can't see to find a CD image for Windows 7 64bit Home? I can only find Windows 7 Ultimate.

Can I go from Vista Home to Windows 7 Ultimate?

If not, where can I find the CD image for Windows 7 Home 64bit?

You need to remaster the disc. Remove ei.cfg, and it will let you install other versions of Win7.

Thanks for the reply!

So if I just remove ei.cfg and recreate the iso and mount it, I should be alright?

Should I expect to run into any issues?

Hm...This hardly makes any sense. When trying to update, I get this error.

The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.

You can?t upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 64-bit version of the installation disc, or go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings.

32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 32-bit version of the Windows installation disc.

So, I can't upgrade from 64bit to 32bit, and I can't upgrade from 32bit to 64bit.

Uh...so if I'm not using running either, what am I running?

I know for a fact that I've got Vista 64bit, so why is it being such a bitch?

The Windows 7 disc that you remastered - was it 64-bit? If not, that's the problem. Removing the ei.cfg file lets you install different editions of Windows (i.e. Home from a Pro disc, etc), but you can't install 64-bit from a x86 cd.
