Upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

You can upgrade but I always prefer a clean install.

Ya, the only caveat is you can't change bitness. If Vista is 32bit it'll only upgrade to Win7-32. If you want 64bit, you'll have to do a clean install which is my preference anyway.

it works but you are not aligned. i ran this way for years. with ssd. no problems. fast.

did two machines actually. I would suggest you move to 64bit when you have new equipment all around you with supported drivers (including that old printer/mfp).

cost of 64bit is quite a bit more than you realize when some apps you own no longer work. (nero 7 came free with a dvd-burner purchase). nero 10 is a dvd full (WTF?)

I've done both. A lot depends on the magnitude and degree of customization invested in installed programs. The last time I upgraded OS's, i.e., Vista to 7, I first did a clean install. After three days of screwing around trying to get everything working like it was, I tried a direct upgrade. Voila! Everything was perfect first time.

BTW - I always do this with a new HDD - and never change the old one until all is 100%. 🙂
