I would like to know If the "non-OEM/non-upgrade" full retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium will support the upgrade function from my "non-OEM/non-upgrade" full retail copy of Vista Business.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but its important to point out that since Vista, i don't buy OEM or "upgrade" versions of Windows, and this might make my situation unique from someone upgrading to or from something other than a full retail copy.

Since Vista I have decided not to buy OEM or upgrade copies of the OS, due to wanting minimum hassle doing clean installs on freshly built systems without any workarounds. So please, no suggestions to get an OEM, upgrade, or pirated copy of Windows 7. If all else fails, I will still buy the full retail version and do a clean install, but it would be nice to know in advance. Thanks.

If you are talking an "in-place upgrade" (where you don't have to re-install your applications), then the answer is "No". You will, of course, be able to do a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium.

Answer from an MS Windows MVP:

"Can I upgrade from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Home Premium?

Unfortunately the answer would be no. This would be considered a downgrade.
The comparable version of Windows 7 would be the professional version."

Then would I be able to buy Windows 7 Professional Full-Retail and do an "in-place upgrade", so I would not have to do a fresh install and re-install all my software?

Yes. The retail versions of Windows can be used for full installations or upgrades, at the owner's choice.
