Upgrading from single drive to RAID 1

I currently have a PC with a single SATA drive on an Intel 965 mobo that has matrix raid support. I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a 2nd identical (more or less) drive, create a RAID 1 array without reformatting or reinstalling vista.

Has anyone tried such an upgrade?

I'd like to avoid re-installing the OS.
