upgrading from one AMD card to another

Uninstall the old card (Go into hardware, right click the video card, and hit uninstall). This will uninstall its drivers.

Then put the new card in, and install the drivers off the CD/Web.

I've flopped numerous AMD cards in and out of my computers chronically. I simply remove the old card, put in the new, then reinstall drivers. Have yet to have this fail....the driver install performs without problems, at least for me.

Latest was removing a 5670 and replacing it with a 7770....did what I wrote and after installing the driver package (did NOT driver clean, etc.), the card's running perfectly and no system anomalies.

Not if your current drivers already have support for the new card installed. Just power off and install the new card, it will go through the usual "New Hardware Found... Installing Drivers.. Do you want to reboot your system now?" process.
