I'm upgrading from my 8800 GT due to BF3. My Resolution is 1080p and would like to get High setting.

Trying to keep the price at $200 or below.

Nvidia:
GTX 560 Ti (after rebate of course). I'd like to get one thats quiet most of the time.

I've not used AMD/ATI for my gaming. Should I look at the 6850 or 6870 2GB?

TIA

at 1080, a gtx570 or 6950 2gb is the lowest you should go IMO. your budget is only 200 bucks but I think you will regret not saving up a little more to go with something around $250-$275 AR.

Same boat as you Op but 9800gtx.

Honestly if you can wait till the game comes out that might be the best deal.

Article was published today by HardOp showing 2gb amd cards in the lead ...more then likely for its extra vram.

6950 2gb is a tasty option anything with 2gb vram appears will be the best deal and heck hardops article shows a 6970 edging out a gtx580 so me myself im eyeballing a 6970

Wait for the game to come out first, THEN buy the card. As we are nearing the holiday season, you will see lots of sales, which will allow you to get something better than you can afford now.

2 X 9800GT here and am also looking to upgrade for BF3 and Batman:Arkham City.

We've still got a month before the actual game releases to decide.

I just upgraded from my 9600GT to a ASUS 6850. Pretty significant difference in Deus Ex. Since I have a 970 crossfire board, I still have a relatively cheap upgrade path with another 6850 in the future. Frys here in Atlanta price matched Newegg... that is nice.

Well I'm trying to hold off until the game is released. I am able to play at 1080p with everything set to LOW. It doesn't do the game Justice, but I can play. I haven't been able to play more than 1hour without a game freeze (not system) or disconnect. Guessing it's the beta or drivers.

Never experienced freezing but from closed to open beta i saw a decrease in performance that has me basically not playing anymore.

Was able to do 1280x1024 with most settings on medium but in the open beta i saw almost a 15 fps decrease that had me lowing everything back to low and still not pulling the fps i used to .

So I changed my resolution to something like 1620x and not full screen. Image was a lot better and not choppy. I was able to play...but don't like the window..vs full screen.

Video Card:
Jumping ship on Nvidia unless the price comes down on the 570. Looks like the 6870 or 6950 is going to be the card I get. It depends on pricing.

Mouse Issue:
My G5 is not working with these games( Bf2 or BF3 Beta). The resolution software isn't staying so I lose my custom options.

Wait for the game to be released - its still in beta and making a GPU buying decision based on a beta article isn't the wisest thing. The Frostbite 1.5 engine (used in BF Bad Company 2) has the GTX 580 beating the HD 6970 by a fair margin. Same thing with the GTX 570 vs. the HD 6950. It may end up having similar results in the released game (with its Frostbite 2 engine) and optimized drivers. Then again, it may not. Definitely a good time to wait and see if you can.

For your budget I would buy pay $55 more [$255] and buy a AMD 6950 2GB. A 6950 is imo the sweetspot for price/performance, its far cheaper than a 570 and its only a 10% or so slower on most games. The 570 is $350 on average...So price/performance wise the 6950 easily wins.

Is the MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II Radeon HD 6950 2 GB a good purchase for $230?

I'm itching to get this before the release of Bf3. I plan on playing 1080p high : )
