Upgrading from ATI x600
I have the following:
Cpu: AMD 939 64 3400+
Memory: 3 GB RAM DDR PC-3200
Video: ATI x600
Sound: SB Xi-Fi
OS: Vista business
I would like to fall in under $175 tax/shipping in.
Ok, my video card is really old, it doesn't even support HDR lighting (something a 6600GT does), but all I play is a handful of PC games now. The games I play are: Eve Online, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and Company of Heroes.
All of these games run fine, Company of Heroes even runs fine at medium for 1v1s at 1650x1050. Company of Heroes is DX10 but I really don't need a DX10, if the card I get has DX10 through, great!
I'm basically looking for an older card, I really don't want to spend $250 on a 8800 GT simply because my CPU is slow (but does the job) and I game on console now for everything that isn't the games I've listed above (or the next must have competitive RTS... StarCraft 2). With that being said, I will spend $250 on an 8800 GT if it make sense.
I also prefer to buy my video cards second hand, but the problem is that its hard to figure out where these old cards sit in relation to one another and to the cards in the market now. I remember seeing a list a year ago that basically list all Nvidia's cards in order of how the generally preformed and another list for ATI. This was a beautiful thing, because it may not been the most accurate list but its something I could give my mom and she would understand and be better off than if she was handed anything more technical.
The other helpful thing was that I would know were a 1950 PRO would stand VS x1950 XT or a 7600 GS was better or worse than a 7600 GT. For those who follow this may simple but I've been out of the loop for quite a while.
I'll just say that the cards I'm looking at are the following today at the local computer shops (Canadian pricing BTW) 8600 GT $150, HD3850 $200, $8600 GT $275. These are the front runners for the cards I would be buying. Although I had someone offer me a ATI 1950 Pro 256MB and a 7800 GTX 256 MB both for $100.00 each, but again I'm having a hard time judging the price/performance compared to the ones that retail in stores now.

Well, any recommendations and/or if someone has that handy dandy references list, thanks.
