Right now, I have a T-bird 1.4 on an Epox 8K7A motherboard. I've had overheating problems in hot weather--will an XP 2400 be any cooler? Does it work fine in my old Socket A motherboard?

Also, if I buy it retail, does the heatsink clip use all 3 prongs on each side of the CPU socket?

I don't care about overclocking.

Overheating problems? Like what, locking up, blue screen, etc. What thermal compound are you using?

On a hot day, sometimes I hear a fan changing pitch as my computer slows down (the ventilation behind my desk could be a little better). Pointing a fan at it usually fixes it, so I guess it's a heat problem. I'm using a Taisol 760 with Arctic Silver II.

My 1.4 AMD Athlon (spare dev box) still runs fine around the 55-60 region with a silent cooler (Aero7+). Sure your fan on the heatsink isnt on the verge of dieing?

AMDs are always hot. I had a 1.4 too and it always overheated in the summer (ambient temp 90+). I switched to P4.
