I want to play all my games at 1280x1024 with max settings. Including AA & AS. Currenty if I enable these to just 2x my FPS crawl. For example RTCW@1024 goes from 125 down to 60something. 3dMarks2001SE goes from 13xxx down to 75xx. Not good. So I'm looking at getting a 9700 Pro or a 9800 Pro. I don't like the idea that it's going to cost over $200. My question is will I be able to slap the hardware setting up and play these games and see beautiful results? Or should I get something like the 9600 Pro and upgrade later to take advantage of the newer games (HL2,Halo,Doom3,etc.)?

Hardware:
P4 3.06@3.22
768MB PC1066 RDRAM
Antec 300w PowerSupply (Antec SX1030B retail)
*System is solid as a rock!

Games:
RTCW ET 1280x1024@Max
RTCW 1280x1024@Max
BF1942 1280x960@Max
MOH:AA,SH,CD 1280x960@Max
UT,UT2003 1280x960@Max

With that system, if you have the cash, go for the 9700pro/9800pro. I upgraded from a ti4400 on my XP2400+ and have seen amazing results in today's games, let alone tomorrow's.

yeah, that thing is limiting you too much. if you want a good card and dont want to spend a lot of $$$ you may want to look into a 9800 non pro

I went fron a Ti4600 to a 9700P. Big difference. Unlike the 4x00, you crank up the AA/AF and still have nice framerates. DX9 support for the future too. HL2 will be here soon!

I also recommend any card from the 9700 or 9800 series. Non-Pro cards are excellent, Pro cards are even better still.

Any card from those families will blow your socks off. I'd shell out the extra money over a 9500 or 9600 without hesitation for my main rig. What these cards can do with AA and AF on is astounding!

I run an Antec True330. Check rig specs below for details. I've owned plenty of nVidia cards. The 4x00 cards were great. I really liked mine, but the9700P just smokes it. There are plenty of cards for sale on the FS/T board if you are looking for a deal.

These guys ? overclockernz took a Gigacube 9800np and managed to overclock it to 432/674. Faster than a stock 9800pro clocked 380/675.

The Powercolor 9800np managed a 450/720 overclock.

These guys
fticomputer have ?.

Powercolor ? Retail box 9800np ? $275
Powercolor ? OEM bulk 9800np ? $220 ...EDIT: THis is a 9800SE

EDIT: THought that OEM card was a real 9800np for a sec.
