I've been trying to find info on how fast of a processor I can put in this motherboard. Currently, it has a PII 300...It's a Gateway E-4200...anyone know offhand if it would only be able to support PII's, or would I be able to put a PIII 750 in it?

Mobo: MBD PII /BX TB HM R1

Thanks for any help!

Go to the gateway support site and find your mobo's support page - than we can work on it from there.

If it is a P2, the highest P3 you can possibly put in is probably a slot P3-600. If you have a mobo that supports both P2 AND P3.
Since you said its a Gateway, I doubt they gave you a mobo that supports P3's also.

I have a Abit BE-6 and that supports up to P3-600 and P2's. Maybe there are mobos out there that support higher P3's. But I really doubt Gateway would've given you a mobo that supports P3's also. Looks like you wil have to stick with P2's or just get a new setup.

Hey, the page shows that there is only P2 support. Sorry viewton...
It says it supports 100 mhz and 66 mhz FSB cpu's. So I guess you can look for a faster P2 Cpu.

But like all other ATers here, I'd suggest you just get a new mobo with a new CPU. Others can tell you bout prices and whether to go P3 or Duron (if you're lookin for value)

Thanks yaethom, I was worried that would be the case.

I agree w/ you about getting a new mobo....can find a decent mobo and 1.4 athlon on tcwo.com for around $170

Thanks again :)
