I am trying to keep what I can to upgrade from my current configuration...

P3 550MHz
22Gb HD 7200RPM
TNT Ultra 2
DVD-ROM
CD-R
384Mb RAM (PC 100)

To this...

AMD Athlon 1.4GHz DDR (266 FSB)

After setting up the motherboard, processor, RAM, and power supply in the new box... I need to start with the HD (formatted) and the video card? Then everything else one by one?

your video card is really going to slow your system down

basically this is the order i put my systems together
1 put together motherboard, ram, cpu, video card, floppy, hard drive, and cdrom
2 make sure the system will post
3 flash to the lastest bios(if the latest bios fixes anything i need fixed)
4 dont overclock anything to start with
5 format hard drive
6 load operating system
7 install motherboard drivers (depends on the motherboard, but basically the via 4in1, and all the other drivers for the motherboard)
8 run windows update and get the os all updated, install directx8
9 install video card drivers
10 one at a time add the rest of the pci cards loading drivers for each
11 make sure everything is working good
12 overclock the system (heheeh if overclocking is what you plan to do)

uhhh i just ran though that list real quick from my head, if i forgot anything guys please correct my mistakes :)

and about the pc100 ram you have.. there is a good chance it won't run at 133mhz, that means your frontside bus would hvae to be 100mhz. this is not good, so make sure you get some ram that can run at least 133mhz.
