Hi, so im just gonna start off by saying i have a gtx 780 and I was wondering what cards I could move up too. I was looking at the new 1050ti would you say that jump is worth it or am I just wasting money just for DirectX12 and VR capability.

My processors is an i7-4770K

We need to know a few other things.

1. What kind of monitor / resolution you are using or if you plan to get a new one soon?

2. How much do you want to spend?

3. What is your current power supply situation although this is less important as the newer gen of cards for nvidia are very power efficient and the gtx 780 probably will draw more but you may need different connections for newer graphic cards in case you have a older power supply as I don't recall what a gtx 780 would needs?

In either case a 1050 ti would probably not be a massive upgrade from a 780, could even be a downgrade, as you would need something a bit more powerful like a gtx 1070 to make it worthwhile over a 780.

A 1050ti is about = to a gtx780.
A $250 gtx1060 6gb would be a great upgrade from a gtx780. about 65% faster.
A $375 gtx1070 is 2x faster at least.

I looked at bench marks for the GTX 770, pretty much the same results too right? I'm looking to upgrade as well.

Depends if he Oc his 780.AT 1200-1300Mhz GTX780 is almost at GTX980 performance.
With GTX1060 its sidegrade with +10-15% performance(after 1060 is oc to max)
With 1070 he will get 50-70% performance(after 1070 is OC to max)

Dont forget GTX780 is just like 980Ti or even worse..Stock crap throttle at 800-900Mhz.After OC to 1200-1300Mhz you get +30-40% performance.
