Hi all,

Just curious here. I'm planning on upgradeing my video card from a Radeon 9100 to some form of a 9600...I'm running a P4 2.53, 512 ram, and a soundblaster 5.1 sound card. I don't want to spend a lot of money so my question is this. How much improvement will I see from each type of the 9600 cards??

I know the XT is the fastest, but I'm lookin at a visiontek 9600 with 256 ram...and I'm even considering a 9600se...so my wife won't kill me!!! LOL I mainly play sims...racing sims to be exact...and I'll probably but Half-life 2 when released.

Anyway, any opionions are appreciated.

I would recommend going with a 9600 Pro with 128MB.

256MB isn't worth it.

Do NOT get the se, it is garbage. Go with a regular or Pro only.

leave the se well alone......if ur wife knew what this card is then she'd beat u even if u paid 5o cents for it..its a total waste........also leave the 256mb version, its got slower ram an the card isnt really powerfull enough to make good use of all tha ram anyway.....and 9600 non pro 128mb or a 9600pro 128 are the best ones to go for

The 9600PRO would probably double your current performance, and a 9800PRO would triple it at the least.

I would sa go for the 9600pro, overclocked with omega cat 4.6's I just got 4000 out mine and I woudl be hugely amaized if you could even break 1500 with a 9100.

It's also much more expensive, and probably not as good a value as a 9800PRO. It depends on your preference I suppose. I've just heard too much bad press about NV30 to go anywhere near it. Flame away.

I'm looking at buying a GF6800GT when they're available BTW. :D

the 9100 isn't a bad card... the 9600 Pro I dont even think will be all that much faster.. maybe a little.

I'd definitely go with the highest possible model to make it at all worthwhile...

Rottie, 8X and 4X AGP cards are interchangeable. You can use an 8X card in a 4X mobo with no problem and no loss of performance, and vice versa.

I just went from a 9100 to a 9800 pro. My 3dmark03 score went from 1100 to 5600. I have a very similar setup to yours. 2.53ghz and 512 ram. You might want to try and spend a couple extra bucks for a card that will last a little longer than a 9600.

That is a really really low score for a 9800, my 9600, AXP and a gig gets 4000.
