Hello,

I just got a 28" Hanns-G monitor and realized my 6600gt isn't going to cut it anymore. I rarely game (I may pickup starcraft 2), if I play a FPS it will be on my xbox. I do, however, watch a lot of movies and backup quite a few movies. I am thinking of getting a Blu-ray drive soon and so need something capable of displaying 1080p. I was very tempted to buy the 4830 for $70 but I'm not sure if it is overkill. I also do not want something that is very loud. My stock fan cooler on my 6600gt broke and amazingly it has never overheated; although, it has made me appreciate an almost silent computer. What do you guys suggest?

From what I've heard, the HD4830 is a great value. Look at it this way: For your uses, you probably won't need to upgrade from it for a very long time.

If the only game you really plan to play in the near future is Starcraft 2, I think a 4670 would be plenty of power for you. It sips power, runs cool and quiet, and you can get it with HDMI. The engine starcraft 2 uses runs pretty well on modest hardware, and the 4670 is no slouch, so you should be getting pretty good FPS at medium to high settings

I just looked around at Newegg, and $70 is about the cheapest you can get a 4670, so if you can get a 4830 at that price, that'd be even better. Heres an Asus 4830 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16814121289) for $75 + free ship

I think if he's going to be playing on that 28" the 4670 might slouch a bit at the high res he'd probably be using. Definitely 4830.

For the few dollars extra, a 4830 is a much better value than a 4670 considering the additional performance it brings.

If you don't plan on really gaming on your PC until Starcraft 2, why not wait until then before upgrading? I'm thinking you should be able to handle blu-ray decoding with that E4400 if it's OCed high enough.
