upgrading from a 2600k to 6700k?

I can get a new 6700K for $299 and I'd be upgrading the system in my sig. I'm a bit frustrated with some USB issues I'm having and hope a new system would help that, along with giving me a decent boost. Thought honestly, I can work around the USB issues.

Thoughts?

I upgraded from my i5 2500k and I got the 6700k from micrometer for $289. It runs decently and I have not overclock it yet. I would recommend it. I did have to get a new mobo but that was also a positive for me because of new features I got.

Yeah, I have enough credit card rewards to get the board, RAM, and an NVMe drive. I'm thinking I'm going to be disappointed if I wait until next year.

I did it because if I didn't do it now, I would end up waiting forever. I had the old processor and components for over 4 years. No issues but felt like I should be up to date.

If you have a micro center near you, there is a $30 off any compatible motherboards if you buy the i7 6700k or other Intel processors. Worked out well for me since the first mobo I tried it was dead. I just went back and got a different one.

I still need to test the display port on the integrated graphics for this board. I also think their warranty for returns is 30 days as the person had told me.

Swapped mine 2 weeks ago. Everything running fine but I had to Jerryrig the second nocturnal fan to the HD enclosure with zip ties as my case didn't have enough room for it to sit high due to ram.

It's cool and running smooth at stock, using igpu for one monitor and a nano for the other. May play with over clocking a bit once I'm running more cpub intensive stuff, but so far it's great.

Why not wait and see if prices drop by then. I'm sure there might be some 4th of July savings somewhere. No point in ordering now and not finding out if any parts are defective until August. Then you would need to deal with manufacturer warranty if enough days passed since ordered from newegg.

I don't think we're going to see the price drop much lower, but it is routinely around $315 or $320. I think I will probably just wait.

I'll be upgrading my trusty 2600K rig this weekend to a 6700K rig. It's been going strong 24/7 for the last 4 years+. Giving it away to my sister who just moved. I'm pretty sure I could get a few more years out of it but I think I got my miles out of it. It will be fun passing along my PC building knowledge to my 16YO son.
