Upgrading from 7600GT, for 3D Studio Max

i like my eVGA 7600 card a lot. but it is straining on some scenes in 3D Max. it also has artifacts, noisy static-y areas that disappear after a redraw.

anyway, i'm wondering what graphics card is a good step up from the 7600GT for about $200.

i like the look of the asus 1950 Pro heatsink

but should probably base my selection on something more than that.

do you think the 8600's will be out in the April time-frame ?

3dsmax likes directx, if you are using opengl select directx you will get nice speed bump.

The only artifacts i ever got in 3dsmax was redraw issues and it was fixed with something redraw scene on window expose, 3dsmax 6 was the last time i used 3dsmax. you can see the dialog here:

This is same for OpenGL if you have to use it.

Also i would turn on vsync from your nvidia control panel.

Hope this helps

But if you really want to get a new card a x1950xt or pro will be nice. But again use directX for 3dsmax.

You should really look into snagging a Quadro or FireGL for 3dsmax

I have been using my 6600GT for max since i got it, and my GF2 prior to that

It can handle anythign very well until it becomes heavily cpu bottled with scenes using meshsmooth over 500k polies
