Upgrading from 7 to 8

I was reading an article that said if I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 before it is released that I can get it for $39. I just can't figure out how to do that. Will someone kindly help me out?

Also, Will Windows 8 still allow me to play all my video games. Like WoW, Minecraft, Steam, etc? Thanks!

The upgrade will be 39$ for the download and 69$ for the DVD. (don't have to order before release, but it might go up after a few months...)

If it works in Windows 7, it'll work in Windows 8.

You can pre-order for the physical version now. The download version won't be available until the 26th.

Actually if you shop at Amazon.com you can get the upgrade version for $69.99 with a $30 credit (limit one through October 20) for a future purchase. Same net price as download version for the boxed version.

Microsoft's upgrade promotions will be until the end of January. So you have a few months to decide; unlike Win7 there isn't going to be any need to rush.

I have a related question. I've bought a couple of laptops recently so I'm eligible for the $14.99 upgrades I think.

I'm wondering what I actually get for that ? Is it a discounted price for the regular download upgrade version ?

Is it tied to the specific laptop that made me eligible for that price or if I'd rather upgrade some other computer will it work for that ?

In short, yes, you're getting the regular download upgrade version for $15. It's not clear whether it's going to be tied to a specific device or not; we'll know more on the 26th.

Actually Microsoft is quite clear that you can apply your $15 upgrade to any otherwise upgradable PC

Cool. I'm thinking W8 would be more useful on a pc with a touchscreen and I expect touchscreen monitors will become common place so it might be better to use the upgrade on my desktop.

First I need to find something horrible wrong with Windows 7......and I just don't see it.

HEck it took me MANY years to move off of XP.....and even that decision was "for shits and giggles".

I don't think so
