Upgrading from 2x 295gtx

I have 2x 295gtx's 9so quad sli) sitting on i5-2500k @4.5ghz, 8gb ram, ssd etc I fancy upgrading the gpu as when they get blowing they are LOUD!

Any recommendations? If I am spending cash I obviously want a performance improvement (and noise reduction!!) but avoiding my cpu being the bottle neck. I play mainly mmo's and as much as they are supposed to be cpu dependant my 4 cores aren't maxed during gameplay.

A GTX 770 or R9 280X will fit your budget (actually be less). Get one with a good cooler and it'll be quiet and faster than what you have. Especially considering no multi GPU scaling needed. The 780 and 290 are a little higher than you are looking to spend but both are worth it IMO. Especially if you plan to hold onto them for a while like your last cards. Again, get a custom cooled design for best performance and lowest noise.

So about 350 euros, for that price you have the GTX 770 or R9 280x. I mean the GTX 770 is faster generally than the 280x, so I'd go for that, though I don't know if its going to be an upgrade over a 2x295.

I think more than anything drivers may be screwing you since I don't think Nvidia is going to be optimizing games for 295 and especially in SLI, so you may be only getting the performance of one 295 in many games that don't have game profiles in Nvidia drivers.

I think in newer games you are going to see a performance increase if you go for a GTX 770 over your current GPU's and its obviously going to be way quieter and consume a lot less power.

So yeah, for that budget I'd got for the GTX 770 and you'll have a relatively quiet card and you'll save a lot on electricity bills.

Well, there's a coincidence. A friend of mine uses the exact same GPUs (And I think he has a very similar rig overall, inspired by some Alienware stuff). I'll tell you what I told him when I saw his system. Ditch these cards. They are more trouble than they are worth. I'm not really sure a 770 or 280x will offer a performance imrpovements, but they do work 100% of the time, and they are quiet (Judging by what you're used to, they're silent). Although I will agree than a 290 or 780 is well worth the extra money. Plus, SLI 780's or CF 290's will be adequate for multiple screens. I'm not so sure the 280x/770 in CF/SLI will do for long...

And this is why I wish these companies could settle on distinct enough naming conventions, and stick to it.

When I first read it, I thought you said you were hoping to upgrade from 2x 295x, not 295gtx. Rather critical little distinction, there.

🙁

I read it the exact same way. I was like first off your already CPU bottle necked and seconds how do you upgrade from multiple 295X's

its gtx295. why do some people say their cards name backwards? its confusing enough keeping up with the real names. lol

I would go 780 if you can get a good deal. if not then 770 is good option.
