Upgrading from 2 Gigs to 6 Gigs DDR2-800

You know, I figure why the hell not with RAM being so cheap now in days. I am running XP64 right now.

Suggestions / Concerns?

(Didn't know if this topic should go in the mem / storage thread or the gaming thread or what, so I put it here 🙂)

You'd probably get the best results using all the same brand & specification memory sticks, and in matched pairs. So: 4x 1 GB, 2x 2 Gb, or 4x 2 Gb sticks.

As far as:
2x 1 Gb + 2x 2 Gb = 6 Gb total
vs.
2x 2 Gb = 4 Gb total

I'm guessing not much, if any, difference in measured performance.
Note that: most motherboards give better results when only 2 of the 4 memory slots are occupied. So: 2x 2 Gb would be preferred to 4x 1 Gb configuration, given similar memory timings.
