Upgrading from 2.8ghz prescott to 3.2ghz northwood

for about $20-30, is it worth it to upgrade my current 2.8ghz prescott to a 3.2ghz northwood? i'm leaning towards the upgrade, not only b/c of the slightly higher speed, but rather the heat will be greatly reduced going to the northwood core.

I'd invest in a new motherboard before getting an older, more limited CPU.

you mean upgrading to amd 64? i'd have to sell pretty much all the parts then. 🙁 i'd rather build a new rig than sell all the parts. besides, they aren't worth much money.

my 2.8 prescott overclocked to 3.2 fine no problem, so maybe try that.

Well I have my 2.8 Proscott o/c'ed to 3.5. But it does him no good since he did say he has an Intel branded board with NO overclocking features at all.

Nah, I mean sell of your old Intel motherboard and get a replacement with overclocking features. You'll get at least $20 for the Intel board on Ebay, and a new one will only cost about $50. (socket 478, right?) With overclocking features, you should be able to push your Prescott past 3.2 GHz easily. You might even hit 3.8 GHz, if you're lucky.
