Upgrading fro KT266 to KT266A or SiS... worth it?

With your video card and processor, I say stay where you are at right now and upgrade your whole system during the next upgrade cycle.

depends on what you want to do... if you're looking at games being your number 1 priority then upgrading your vid card is the biggest thing... the radeon ddr is no slouch, but the new ones are just a whole ton faster.

though almost anything is an improvement on the kt266... even the kt133a is faster, IIRC.

I recently "down-grade" (Sis735 is much cheaper) my system from Epox KT266 mobo to Chaintech Sis735.

Stability-wise, they both pretty good.
Speed-wise, Sis735 perform little better. (actually noticable when playing high resolution game)
However, ECS and Chaintech mobo can't OC at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could easily run my Morgan Duron at 133X9 w/ KT266
but I stuck w/ 100X10 w/ Sis735.

hmmm........................

Oh, bah-loney. I've overclocked every ECS board I've gotten my hands on. K7S5A is no exception.

Chaintech's 7SID is also quite overclockable.

To answer the original posters' question -- yes, SiS 735 has real world performance difference from KT266.

Not really worth it IMHO if you do upgrade KT266A is the better option of the two speed wise, don`t listen to Pabster he would sell you SiS T-shirts given half the chance 😉.

Yeah, if you play your games at 640x480 and can honestly discern the difference between 202fps and 220.

Otherwise, save yourself $30 (at least) and several headaches by going SiS 735.

Or better still as I said it`s not worth upgrading at the moment so he will save even more money 😉.

Care to show me how you OC my Morgan Duron?
Only setting I could find in this mobo is 133FSB/100FSB jumper.
Perhaps you have beta BIOS that also able to tweak the voltage?
