Ok my rig is in my sig. im trying to make it quieter. is there anything you would do other then waht i have in mind. i plan to get a s12 600w, 3 nexus 120mm, SI-120. waht do you think anything you would want to change?

i also am going to get a 2 gigs of ram, and a benq dvd-rw

anything you would add or change?

Are you using the stock heatsink/fan? Those are usually pretty loud.

Does your case have fans? Does it have a lot of fans? Does it use silent fans?

Is your PSU loud? I would assume that ocz unit isn't, but I don't have experience with them.

The question is... where is the noise coming from?

it coming for the cpu as far as i kno. im getting the new psu cuz i hate the cable on my modstream im going to put it in a server soon. im going to needs fans for the server so i might as well get silent ones for my rig.

3 nexus is quiet. At like 23dB, these things are dead silent.

Modstream is not your quietest PSU. Seasonic is (unless you count the fanless stuff). Modstream will be quieter than Fortron, but louder than Antec, and definitely louder than Seasonic.

new antec quiet case.. tsunami isn't made for silence. your foundation needs to be changed or else its all a waste of effort

Antec SLK3000B case. Add two medium speed 120mm x 38 mm Panaflos and two Zalman Fanmate 2 fan controllers. Remove the front purple fan clip and bolt the Panaflo directly to the inside front of the case. The Nexus does not move as much as air the Panaflo.

The Enermax 495 V2.0 Noisetaker PSU has two fans in a push-pull configuration. This PSU is around $75 retail and does an excellent job at pulling heat out of the case, even at the lowest speed. Efficiency is between 77 and 80%.

I would get the P180 if I were you, they have the HDD antivibration mounts already in them and you can also buy this for your nexus fans. You could try a fan controller too if you want your fans quiet, especially with that kit.

well so far my case is prity quiet the HDD cage came with rubber any vibration stuff. i main thing i hear is the cpu fan so im going to work on the fans first then ill go to a new case.

Well I ordered some sleeving for my cables, an XP-120 /w 120mm Panaflo, 3 Nexus fans, and the anti-vibration kit. Things should quiet down a bit for me... can't wait to get them. I'm a fan of the XP-120 myself, the SI-120 is about the same thing... nothing better about it but I've heard and read better things about the XP-120 so that's what I'm getting for myself.

ditto on the Enermax Noisetaker, have one it works great and is very quiet

get an NV Silencer from Arctic Cooling for your 6800gt

You only need one 120mm fan up front. Rear exaust fans are more important, get a small one to exhaust near processor and perhaps a pci slot cooler (on a toggle switch or fan controller) to put in bottom rear of case and turn it on when you game.

Try these cheap mods first:

Open up your modstream and switch the fan for a Nexus, Yate Loon, Papst or other quiet fan. Cooler Master fans are very quiet and also cheap. This is much cheaper than buying a Seasonic and will give very similar results.

Try suspending your hard drive with elastic (visit www.silentpcreview.com or www.7volts.com).

Run your existing case fans at 7v or 5v. See above-mentioned websites for guides. Install Speedfan and slow down your CPU fan.

Get a Zalman cooler for your graphics card if it becomes the loudest part of your system after this.

Try lining your case with sound-deadening material. The denser, the better. Thick vinyl floor tiles are good. Dense acoustic foam works too, as does industrial carpet, and so on. You could experiment with a cheap Wal-Mart foam mattress pad.

These relatively simple and cheap mods will give you a much quieter system, without going to the expense of a new, expensive 600W PSU, three expensive Nexus fans (and they are expensive as fans go), and an expensive SI-120 heatsink. After doing these mods, re-evaluate whether or not you need it to be any quieter, and then you can go from there.

well i kno for a fact the cpu fan is the loudest. thats gotta go. would the padding that goes under wood floors work ill have to go give that a try. as for the psu, i absoutly HATE the modstream....the cables come out when i move stuff round and they are too hard to wrok with. im going to put that in a server system

the 430w is enough to power your rig. You might want to consider that.

I believe your current mobo has a small fan on it. However, it'll be hard for you to change it to a passive one since your video card may be blocking it. I recommend an Asus A8N-SLI Premium and an NV Silencer for your video card if u are willing to spend that much

Great suggestions.

First off... dont' get that s12 PSU... there are known issues with that PSU when used with your motherboard. Go to DFI street forums if you need to know more. Issues are: cold boots, no boots, random reboots, strange rails, etc....

First try modding your PSU with better fans. Yate Loons and Nexus are great replacements. Make sure you completely discharge the PSU first though unless you want to shock yourself. As previously mentioned go to www.silentpcreview.com to learn how to do this.

If modding your PSU is not for you then the Enermax 600W Silentaker is a great choice. I'm using this in my HTPC which requires dead silence in the living room when watching movies and such and I have the fans set to low. Very very quiet and great rails. That and it is a 24pin PSU which is a must for your mobo... which I happened to have too. 🙂

Definetly get those Nexus fans for your case cooling.... pretty much inaudible at 7volts.

And do as suggested and use elastic suspension for your hard drives.

Forget about the noise dampening material. Waste of money. Been talked about many times and can raise temps if used incorrectly.

Other than that you are on your way to silent bliss! 🙂
