I got a Radeon 32DDR yesterday, and before I install it, I need to upgrade from DirectX 6.1 to a version of DirectX 7.0. Is it as simple as running Windows update and letting Windows do all the work? I noticed DirectX7.0a is available, so should I upgrade to that version? Any other suggestions you could give me?

I've had some huge troubles with getting updates with Windows Update.....got Outlook Express totally fecked up.....

my advice is to always avoid those kind of automatic updaters when you can, and get a seperate install file. and yups, just get that file from http://www.microsoft.com/directx/ and run it :) a little warning: you can't press 'cancel' when the 'reboot computer' screen comes up so be sure not to work on something big while doing it :p

There is no substitute to listening to each of these systems in an appropriate environment (not CompUSA). Ask aroumd, I'm sure you have friends that own the Pro-Medias or ADA885s or BA4800s (the DTT3500s are too new). If you live in Atlanta, I can demo my setup as I have done for several others.
