Upgrading Dell GX1 - Any help?

Hey all, i'm upgrading my brother in law's computer for xmas and i think i messed up in the CPU purchase.

I yanked his P3 550mhz with 512 L2 cache, 100 mhz bus, 2v core and replaced it with a 1000mhz, 256 L2 cache, 133mhz bus, 1.7v core and it doesnt even boot up.

Old Processor specs (intel.com)

New Processor Specs (intel.com)

I guess i'm banging my head against the disparity between the bus speeds; would that cause the computer to not boot up? I figured it would just throttle the bus speed, but i guess not.

Does anyone know...

A) ...if there's any hope of getting this new processor to work in the motherboard? I read that i need to bump the bios down to A07, which doesnt limit the speed of the CPU... i'm going to try that next.

B) ...what specifically, CPU wise I can put in this box to upgrade it? I'm running out of time, but i've read that by using SlotKits i can use a socket 370 CPU in here. But again, i'm worried that i'll run into some kind of bus, voltage or some other conflict.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
