Upgrading Cisco Router/Switch Memory

Can I use generic memory as long as I get the right type ? I mean, can I get a 72pin dram memory for a 2600 router and install it in a WS-X5530 ?

generally no. Could work, could not.

google for cisco compatible memory, there's plenty of places that sell it for cheap.

Kingston sells Cisco compatible memory, as does Crucial.
