Upgrading/Changing motherboard

My cousin has an Alienware computer. He's wondering if he can upgrade his motherboard, because the Alienware logo appears when he right clicks on my properties in 'My Computer'. So he thinks that it might screw up the system, if he changes the mobo. What do you guys think?

He most likely will not be able to reinstall Windows from the disk(s) that came with the AlienWare PC, if he is replacing with a "retail" mobo...if its a replacemnet from AlienWare it should be no problem.
He may need to get another copy of Windows.

Yeah that was what I was thinking. He won't lose all his files right? Because all files are saved in the hard drive, so as long as he keeps the hard drive he can keep all his files?

Burn the files to cd, and move the components to a new m/b in new case. If it's XP or 2k, it's likely he'll be able to install the new drivers safely with the backup disk.
