Upgrading cell phone?

Ok, here's the backstory. I've had my TMobile (aka voicestream) service for the last 6 years. I started with the 2290, 6290 and now the 8290. This 8290 is a piece of junk... somehow i've managed to keep it for the last year. Amazon has the Samsung S105 for 30$ but it's only with a new service... I'd like to keep my phone number that i've had for the last 6 years, but do not want to wait until november to hear that the companies have pushed back legislation to allow this for another year.

I called up Tmobile and the conversation went as follows.
I kindly asked them how much it would be upgrade to the S105.
With a contract extension, 249.99$
Err... maam, do you guys pricematch? Amazon is selling it for 29.99$ and i've been a good customer for 6 years.
I'm sorry, but that's the best that I can do.
Ok, can you tell me when this billing period ends?

Gday.

Is there ANY way to keep my same phone number and upgrade or will i just have to get a new service?

Thanks.

This is a complicated issue. First of all, Amazon.com gets huge bonus from T-Mobile for selling a service contract, which allows them to offer the phone for such a low price. You best bet it get the phone from T-Mobile, or you check out this place, or this place.

To upgrade your phone all you have to do is remove your SIM card (usually under the battery) and put the SIM card in the new phone. The new phone will now have the same number, and the same service plan as your old phone. The SIM card is what makes the phone yours.

If you're going to switch to a new service provider to get a discount on this new phone, then your number will change.

Well, I would imagine that you would have the maximum amount of credit towards a new phone from Tmobile, but I would call a CSR (611 on your phone) and make sure. Second, are you in a contract? If not, then it is the perfect time to hit them up for a new phone. If you are in a contract... wait a littile time until your contract is up.

Once your contract is up, you call the handset upgrade department, and say that all of these other companies are offering you cool phones for cheap, and you are tempted because Tmobile isnt offering something comparable. They will most likely give you a good deal at this point and sign you up for another year. That is my plan... another 6 months to go with my 3390😱

Anyone know of any good deals for people looking for a SIM-card based plan that has specials for people who already have a phone?
