Upgrading Boot to SSD, does it make sense to replace dead raptor with another raptor?

My WD Raptor died last week and I'm taking this opportunity to upgrade to the new Vertex 2 for my boot drive. That being said, the Raptor is still under warranty and I have the opportunity to either replace or upgrade. Does it make any sense to have both an SSD and Raptor in the same box? Obviously, the Raptor is pitiful speed wise but I just wonder if it would be of any use given my normal usage. That being lots of architectural work including AutoCad, Revit, Rhino, 3ds Max, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. Would there be anyway to take advantage of those 10,000 RPMs in conjunction with an SSD? I think ive pretty much talked myself out of another Raptor but I leave it to you guys to tell me what to do. I can always use another 1/2 TB storage drive so that might be the better choice since I will be upgrading to the SSD at the same time.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Absolutely and alot of people are doing exactly that. If you can get two drives in the setup is ideal and that specific drive is ideak for your purpose.

Its an untested drive, however, and I would warn of that whereas a...oh ...Intel is a proven reliable drive.

Alot of info below on The SSD Review and you can also head over to NewEgg and type Vertex 2 in the search box from there...

Thx, however, I'm not so much asking for a review of the Vertex 2, as I am asking if using an SSD and Raptor together makes any sense. All my apps will fit on the SSD so I am unsure if the Raptor would be of any use. I suppose it could be used as a scratch disk but I have no idea if that's even possible with the above mentioned programs.

Could the Raptor be used to speed up my system on top of the SSD?

OK thx, too bad the WD SSD is garbage. Do you think its worth it to RMA the Raptor for another one and then sell it and buy a larger storage drive or just use the $25 discount and upgrade directly to the larger storage drive.

Yess....whatever saves you money right? I am considering myself a bigger system for review purposes with a 2Tb data and intel X25...maybe i will go to Sata 6Gb and the crucial by then who knows?

My version of the Raptor was upgraded almost 2 years ago. Do you think they will RMA the same model I have or upgrade me to the current model but same size?

Who knows, WD is nice when it comes to that.

Last month I sent in an old junky 750GB drive I pulled out an external HD that went dead last year, because I found out its warranty ran out mid May. In return for this I got a 1TB WD Black drive.

Yeah, not the current 750GB WD or the 1TB normal drive. The 1TB black drive.

Will buy from them again.
