Upgrading an older sytem

I'm thinking about updating my older computer and need some advice.

Currently it is
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.4GHZ
RAM: 1534 MB
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 6800
Hard Drive: (Only has 13GB left)

I was looking to find out what would be the recommended upgrades to get this system able to efficiently play the latest games and I also wanted to know does Hard Drive space effect speed of your computer.

Thank you.. I know i'm a noob.

First thing we need to know is what kind of Video card interface your motherboard has.

Is it AGP or PCI-E??

hard drive space doesn't effect speed, unless you're almost out of space. 13 gigs isn't a lot, but how big total is the drive? newer drives will be faster of course. If your system is AGP you can upgrade to an ATI Radeon 1950pro, GF has one and it rocks. Your CPU isn't new but it's fast, a dual core would be faster but then you'd need a new MB + Memory + maybe power supply. Then it starts to get expensive. If it's PCI-E you could get an 8800gt, memory add another 512 it's cheap as hell right now.
