Upgrading an old latop

Dunno if this should be in "notebooks" as its not really a notebook, its a fat laptop with next to nothing for battery life 😛

Basically what i wanna do is upgrade the memory so it wont thrash as much as it does now with 128mb. Apparently the max is 512, so i went down to the local IT shop and asked for prices on upgrading as i dont really do laptops. He told me abour 60 odd quid for 256mb's of pc133 and 100 quid for pc100, he got these prices off the original manufacturer. He showed me different SODIMM's and said they have to be the same speed for it to work, different speeds have different voltage notch placements. Dunno if thats true or not so im asking you guys 😀 Is it as complicated as that techy guy made it out to be or can i simply buy 2x256mb pcxxx SODIMMS from ebay and install them???

u can go to sites like mushkin or err, damn i can't remember the other sites name, find the laptop u have and it should list the compatible ram. should be just a few screws or a panel hiding the sodimm slots. u do have to get the correct sodimms though, but after that its not that hard. i'm sure someone else remembers the bigger memory website.
