Alright I have an Asus M6N (really listed as M6B00NE24M)

It currently has a 40gig 5400 rpm hd
512 mem pc2700 DDR 333mhz
1.5 centrino m processor

I want to upgrade the hardrive and memory on this thing; however, before I purchased it I contacted Asus asking what the max is for those two areas he informed me that for the memory the max is 512mb 333mhz and the hardrive is 80gb 5400rpm

Now he keeps telling me this is what was tested but does that leave any breathing room?

I would really like a drive larger than 80gb like 100-120 and 7200rpms instead of 5400rpm

as for the memory hell anything larger than 512, since this laptop is goofy only the extra bay for memory is accessible from the bottom of the laptop the primary i guess you would have to remove the bottom of the case.

My question is, is it even feasible to try? It would be a real pain to buy better stuff wait for it to arrive only to see it hit a wall and not work.

Has anyone here esp with an ASUS older laptop pushed past the recommended specs?

Considering it's really a load of garbage that it can only handle a 80GB drive, I'd say try 1GB memory too.

The las time BIOS limited HDD size it was something like 20GB. If it can take an 80GB, it should take a 200+GB, as long as the interface it the same. RPM won't affect compatibility in any way.

137GB was the last limit, and it was limited by BIOS as well as OS (and in some cases even IDE controller drivers). As mentioned RPM makes no difference.

If you go to Crucial's web site, it says that you can put in up to 2GB of RAM. I believe it uses the Intel 855PM chipset which also supports 2GB RAM.
