Upgrading Alieanware

I am thinking about replacing my motherboard and cpu. Area 51 case, P4 530 3.00ghz Asuus p5gd1-vm 2 gigs DDR memery, Geforece 8500 GT GPU 512mb, HD is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3120827AS . Was trying to get some suggestions for a nice mid range rebuild. Looking at either E8400 or Q6600 for CPU. Not sure about motherboard, SLI or Crossfire is not a necessity. I have lots of questions but the main ones are- Will I need a new version or Windows XP if I change the motherboard and cpu? Will the hard drive still work with the new mother boards? And any suggestions on the CPU, motherbard, and ram combinations to look at.

assuming that it's an oem licence them strictly speaking, yes.

yes

you're 'spose to get a new license when replacing a mobo, but most likely you be able to do a fresh install without issues. you may have to call MS to activate, but that a minor inconvience.
