Hi,
I was thinking of upgrading my aging AGP rig for some time now, and I finally did so a few days ago. A week ago I pre-ordered me a Core 2 Duo E6400. Now is the time to choose some decent new parts to finish up this rig. I'm looking for an affordable, but decent motherboard that will allow me to do some average overclocking, a 2GB kit of DDR2 memory and a pci-e video card. I'm only an occasional gamer, but when I do play, I would like to be able to play at decent settings. Mostly however it's a multimedia/internet pc. This rig will also have to last for about 3 years with none to very little upgrading (hdd sometime soon), since my priorities are slowly changing, and I'm not gonna be spending too much $ on pc stuff too often anymore.
Here is what I've got left over:
Antec NeoPower 480W
Thermaltake Tsunami DreamTower
Seagate Barracuda 120GB and 40GB (will upgrade both soon)
Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum
LG GSA-4040B 4x DVD-R/RW/RAM drive
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 pre-ordered
Looking for an affordable motherboard, ram and video card.
Here is what found so far, but need your help picking which one to get.
Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 ($184.95CAD)
RAM:
OCZ Gold XTC PC2-6400 2GB kit ($213.66CAD)
OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 2GB kit ($218.29CAD)
OCZ 2GB PC2-6400 Gold 2GB kit ($269.95CAD)
Mushkin EM2-6400 2GB kit ($249.95CAD)
Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB kit ($231.32CAD)
Video Card:
Still not decided if I should get a cheaper card for now and then upgrade for dx10.
eVGA e-GeForce 7900 GT KO 256MB ($329.95CAD)
eVGA e-GeForce 7600 GT KO 256MB ($199.95CAD)
There is an option of getting a used BFG 7800GTX for $250CAD and a 7800GT for $200CAD.
I've been busy @ work for last few months, so I lost touch with the latest tech. Thats why I really need your feedback and suggestions that are very welcome. Thanks.
