Upgrading Advice

Hey....

Currently I have a 7900 GT and I was getting ready to upgrade and was having some difficulties choosing. First of all, I just bought a new dell 24" monitor running at 1900x1200 and wanted something that'll handle decent gaming on it. Originally I thought I'd just lower the resolution when I was going to play a game but I'd like to keep it at 1900x1200. So my question is which of these 3 cards is the best buy, 8800 GTS 320 MB; 8800 GTS 640 MB; or HD2900XT. I heard that gaming at higher resolutions was better on the 640 MB than the 320 MB. I don't want to spend more than $400. Also, is it a little late to buy into the G80 series and should i wait for the mythical 8900!!!

Please Help

Prices are pretty good on the 8800s so go for the 8800. Now i don't know all the details about how well the 2900 stacks up against the 8800 GTS. If i'm not mistaking doesn't the 2900 have 1gb of VRAM? If so go with it. Otherwise get teh 640Mb GTS.

the 2900xt has 512mb, the 2900xtx has 1gb of ram, but also costs a lot more then 400$. According to this: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articl...8-roundup_9.html#sect1 the 8800gts 320mb performs the same in 1900*1200 as the 8800gts 640mb. The 2900xt performs equal to or better then the 8800gts 640mb, and sometimes is as fast as the 8800gtx.

Personaly, with a 7900gt, I would hold of a little longer, unless it is really struggling with your new monitor. Or go with a 8800gts 320mb, and use the stepup program to buy a better card in 3 months.
