Upgrading a laptop HDD

A friend of mine wants to replace her 60gb laptop HDD to a larger one. Her laptop is 3-4 years old. It's a Sony, P4, Windows XP. She has a WD250gb external drive. I can install a new HDD for her. What's the best way to mirror/clone her boot file,OS,and all programs to the new HDD?

For pay - Acronis TrueImage

I've heard Drive Snapshot (drivesnapshot.de) is a good free option, never used it myself though.
