I'm thinking about upgrading my old fart 9600xt to x1600xt. do you think it's worthwhile?
there's no direct comparision table for these two cards. but i know, 9800xt beat the sh** out of 9600xt and 6600gt is marginally better than 9800xt.

x1600xt and 6600gt in xbitlabs comparision chart are neck to neck. do you think it's worthwhile to upgrade? my upgrade cycle for graphic card is 2 years, and RAM 3 years, and CPU is 5 years. LOL

I bought a 9800pro on these boards for 65 bucks to replace my 9600xt. I didnt wanna spend a lot of money on a new agp card and I'm happy with the performance increase.
I never used a 6600GT or x1600, but the 9800 allows source to run at high settings 1280x no AA/AF and fear on medium 8x6. I couldnt get fear to run smoothly at any level on
the 9600xt so I'm really happy with that.

Plus you can still get 50 bucks for the 9600xt here or more on ebay!

If the rest of your system is real nice (P4 3.0+, 1 gig DDR+), then a better card might be worth it, but I'm not about to pour money into a 2.4 with DDR2700.

According to this thread:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=1813962

Sapphire now offers X1600 Pro as AGP.

Comarison there is less substantive, being 9800 Pro vs. X 1600 Pro.

But most of the various arguments pro and con are at least somewhat pertinent.

i posted in that thread

the x1600xt is not yet available in AGP so i am calling shens on the OP's post . . . especially the price.

The $57 X1600 on HP's site lasted all of like 2 hours due to the flood of FWers. The price is now the same as some 6600GT AR.

For $57, I'd have gotten one. I think I can ebay my newegg refurb $53 shipped jaton 6600 non-gt for like $100. Heck, considering the cardboard boxes xbox360s came in can pull in $810, maybe I should try for $1000.

Indeed, no X1600XT AGP that i'm aware of. If you can find an X1600Pro for ~$50 then do it, otherwise, 6600GT.
