Upgrading 2 dell and a gateway from xphome to Pro

My friend has a dell laptop and desktop and one gateway laptop that all came with xp Home. He's having all kinds of printersharing problems, and we decided to just upgrade these machines to XP Pro.

My question is, will the OEM version version work with the OS that came with these machines such as purchased from Newegg. I don't want him to purchase these and find the dells or gateways will not play nice with the OEM versions.

Any advice would be great.

(Assuming no Windows Server domain is involved) Save your money, stick with Windows XP Home, and solve the sharing issues.

Any insight on the printer sharing issue (they don't share files across the network at atll). He was successfully printing to a shared a printer connected to the desktop from his Gateway laptop wirelessly, and then it just stopped working.

Always the error "Not sufficient privileges". Giving everyone full control didn't even fix it.

When I google the problem, tons of hits come up with similar issues and xp home. Seems to be related "simple file sharing", but I have no idea. I've never had a problem sharing a printer with Pro. Any help would be great.
