I have an old a s s hp sitting in my basement and i would like to upgrade it, i am only looking to spend about $200, so using the parts from hp mostly i have to get new mobo, memory, and cpu, i've been thinking of getting a sempron 3100(btw can be overclocked from 1.8ghz->2.52ghz!!!!!!) a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 and some memory maybe like 512mb. my two questiosn are is
-is this good stuff for the money?
-and will the old a s s psu in the hp(its atx i checked) will it be able to power the new s h i t because its only like 175watts from wat im reading on the back? ( maybe this is wrong ill check again but for sure its prolly low cus its powering a 600mhz celeron, a socket 370 board, cd-rom, and radeon 9250)

thnx everyone

btw the sempron is socket 754 in case anyoen is wondering which is alot btr than socket a/462 or w/e the other one is called.
I wil be using this machine for regular computer use and soem counter-strike and possibly some newr games but i dont mind playingf at lower resolutions liek 640x480 and 800x600 so hl2 and doom 3 is possible. whis thing should run doom3 and hl2 comparable to a64 3400 when oced to 2.52ghz.

wait, you are just going to keep the HP case or something? why not just get an entirely new computer?

175 W will probably NOT be enough to power your 'new' system.

350 W is usually the least you use in even a Socket A/462 System... so I'd recommend you replace that first (as I am a strong advocate that the PSU is the most important part in your computer).

EDIT: Yeah.. like 'theman' said, you're basically buying an entirely new computer except for drives and stuff. I'm pricing a 'new' Socket A computer, in which I'm doing the same thing, and it comes to be about $200 for new mobo, processor, RAM, heatsink, and PSU (no video card). Just fyi.

ty i wil then look for a 350w psu, and the other guy yes i am keepign the hp case becasue i am only upgrading this computer, i am getting an entirly new one later thsi year.

thnx for the replies i cnat wait to maybe get also a new air cooler other thna the stock and overclok the semprin to 2.6ghz. At xbitlabs.com they overclocked it to 2.52 on stock air cooling.

wow i jus read they overcloked the 130nm one to 2.52 and the 90nm one which i am getting to 2.7ghz then they benchmarked it and in soem cases it even beat the a64 3800+!!!@!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀
