Upgrades, Please Post Comments

am going to upgrade my computer, and am wondering if everything sounds good.

A7N8X Deluxe-UAY Rev. 2.0 w/Audio, Dual LAN, AGP 8X, SATA, 1394

Athlon XP 2500+ 512K Barton (Retail Box)

Corsair 256MB XMS PC3200 CAS2 DDR w/Heatspreader (Most likely will purchase another 256 when I have the cash. And do I need a Heatspreader, and does it have to be platinum? And should the RAM be "low latency"?)

Asus V9280/TD Geforce Ti4200 8X 128MB w/TV-Out, DVI, Dual VGA (200Mhz/300Mhz DDR)

Antec TruePower 330W PSU

Any and all comments will be appreciated!

PS. Yes, I am on a budget, and I have also heard that the CPU I am getting cannot support PC3200, is there any truth to this?

EDIT: Most likely the only OC'ing I will be doing is bumping up the FSB to 400 from 333. Also, will I need to purchase any other fans, and if so, what are some good brands? I am purchasing all this from a local store because I have some instore credit, so that is why I am not asking for links.

no heat spreaders required on that ram, flashy, but not noticable difference in performance.
2.5 cas is awesome, 3.0 is great, depending on the software you use you'll probly want to go to at least 512.

I started with 256 and threw in a 512 with it, now 768, noticed major difference in load times for games like battlefield.

I don't feel that I need a DX9 video card at this time, especially with the video card market as it is. Im not a "hardcore" gamer. I play games occasionally (Warcraft 3, BF 1942, and a bit of Rise of Nations). The only game I see myself purchasing in the future would be World of Warcraft (Blizzard always makes their games to run on the lowest of the low systems), and possibly Battlefield Vietnam (only after it drops in price).

And maybe in 6 months or so, when DX9 is a necessity, I might go out and purchase one. Heck, I am running a Voodoo3 16mb, and I am playing Warcraft 3 on it, and whats that video card, DX5?

Any other suggestions? Comments? Should I move down to PC2700 or PC2100?

8RDA+ is a cheaper nForce2 mobo made by Epox ($83 as opposed to something like $130 for the ASUS).

I'd say if you're doing the "get one stick of RAM then save up for another" thing, you'd be better off with a 512MB stick now and another later. You don't want to purchase the two 256MB sticks only to find out that you need a gig down the road, and have wasted your cash on the original two which will have to be ripped out.

May as well get the OEM Barton and a good HSF for overclocking. I doubt the 2500+ retail HSF will run the CPU at 3200+ speeds (bumping the FSB to 400MHz).
