Got the Q9400 yesterday and installed it last night. Man my damn email opens hella fast now.
I gained about 2000 points in 3DMark06 at stock versus the 3Ghz E5200 I was running. So that is a plus......I guess.
I Primed the new Q at 3.0 (8x375) over night (13hrs) with no errors. It was blend test. Memory was only at 750 @ 1:1. I think I'll go to 3.2Ghz tonight. I put all the voltages in the BIOS at the stock settings (vice Auto) but left the CPU vid (or vcc??) at Auto. It booted fine and CPUZ and showed it at 1.21.
Cooling was good with the Xigmatek. One core got a bit higher then the others though, it hit 43c while the others topped out at 37c max. Kinda weird I thought. The Xigmatek is a nice HSF and installation is pretty straight forward. The back plate is a big plus for this thing as it makes it a little easier to install vice those @#$% push pins. But a bit of a WARNING: the edges on the heatsink are sharp! I cut three fingers (thumb is pretty deep) installing the fan on the heatsink the rubber fasteners are a little difficult).
After all is said and done, I'm glad I made the upgrade. I just hope it holds out for a little longevity.
