Upgraded Processor and Now Sometimes Get Bootup Problem

I am using Windows 2000 pro on a Dell Optiplex GX1 and recently installed a Pentium 600e mhz processor 100mhz fsb and upgraded-flashed the Bios to the proper A07. Now every other time I bootup, 3/4 of my desktop is black (with a small windows logo) and nonfunctional. I then hit the restart button and it checks all the files and then lets me access my desktop. I thought this might have been a virus but my antivirus found nothing. And my spyware programs found nothing either. Then I completely reformatted my C drive and now I'm still getting the same problem on bootup though not every time. Other than bootup, I have no other problems.

1. Do I have a bad processor and is there some way to test for that?

2. Do I need to install some video patch or something?

3. Is there some boot bios log I can check that would tell me the exact problem?

Thanks,

The power supply is 200 watts which isn't enough for a P4 but should be adaquate for a 600mhz processor. I did however, use an extra fan cable to the powersupply cable to connect the fan on the processor because there was no fan for the processor on the previous 266mhz one since there is already a bigger fan in the box pointing at the heatsink. But I don't think that little processor fan draws that much power.

Is your memory up to the task? The 266MHz runs on a 66MHz fsb and the 600E on a 100MHz fsb. If the memory is rated at PC66 this could be a problem.

My memory is rated pc-100.

After I get that unfunctional screen, I do a restart and then it goes through file checking and then often truncates files and leaves something like a file on my c drive named 0000. I don't understand it at all.
