Upgraded Nforce drivers now PC won't cold boot.

I uninstalled the 6.82 Nforce drivers than installed 6.85 drivers for my DFI NF4 Ultra-D. Now the computer will get stuck (but not frozen) at the windows boot screen. After a hard reboot windows boots up normally.

Any suggestions on how to fix this w/o reformatting windows? What is the correct way to upgrade Nforce drivers?

I'm thinking it's not the upgrade process. You might just want to roll back and check with the mobo oem.

Aren't you referring to the NVIDIA IDE drivers only?

I'll use add & remove programs to uninstall first, reboot to safe mode, then run driver cleaner and choose nForce chipset. Afterwards boot back to normal mode and install the nForce4 AMD Edition - Windows XP/2000 (32-Bit)

Next time I'll try the driver cleaner, I will reformat this time however.

BTW, john you linked to a different driver than I use for my Nforce4. I used these:

I always assumed the "X16" drivers were for PCI-Ex equiped Nforce4 boards, which is what I have. Did I use the wrong drivers?
