A week ago I belt a new system.

AMD 64 3400
1GB of RAM 3200
Asrock K8 Combo-Z motherboard with ALI M1689 Chipset
Radeon 9800PRO
Windows ME
500Wat Power Supply

Now I can?t play any CC Generals, HL2 and Far Cry well lock up after about 1hr of play.

The system is not over heating, and I?m sure that I have plenty of power. I have all new drivers and I even flashed the BIOS, that maid two of my games work. I looked at my IRQ?s and they are sharing my video cards IRQ?s with my sound and Network card. I would just move the sound and network card but they are intergraded. I tried disabling them and the problem is still continues to happen.

I?m out of ideas and need help!

Also I understand that people had a lot of problems with ME but all the games were working just fine on my old system just a little slow. So could adding XP PRO help at all?

Being that it works for about an hour in the games, and it only locks up in games, it sounds like your vidcard may be hanging. That cpu is pushing that card to the limit for sure. Make sure you're not overclocking the card, and check the heat of the card right as the lockups occur. I had the same problems way back in the day on an overclocked tnt2 ultra.

Sharing IRQ's is normal, I believe. ME stinks, though. :D

I believe ME and 98/98se have trouble with ram over 512MB. If you have 2 512 sticks, try removing one of them. I think you need to change a setting in vcache to use over 512MB. Somebody around here will remember.

You can try running with the case open and a fan blowing on the computer to eliminate heat as the culprit.

You can run Memtest86 to see if it's unstable ram.

You can unplug anything that's not necessary to see if it's a power supply issue.

XP is far more stable than ME. I would do a clean install, though.

The video card temp is A OK. It is a tuff card. But with HL2 and Generals the game wont even start it is non responsive. I have to hit ctrl, alt delete every time. I'm thinking that it is eater the OS or the Chipset is just non compliant with the new equipment. What do you think.

What would you say would be a good video card to get?

Damn you are right I completely forgot that ME can not address over 512MB of ram. Its is a single stick of ram. Give me some time to see if the others stuff works at all.
