Hmm. Still not sure. At a $1.66/gb do you think it's worth it to wait just a little bit? Or, should I strike while the iron is hot (xmas time, self gifting :)).

The longer you wait, the more you will beat yourself when you see what you've missed.

Do you still store your music on cassette tapes because iPods are too expensive? Maybe you could get a cassette tape drive FOR the iPod and see how well shuffling and random play works on reel to reel :awe:

That's essentially what the PC has been doing for the last 50 years with HDDs...

Make sure you have more money than just the price of the SSD... because as soon as you're up and running you'll be shredding all your CDs/DVDs for 100+ MB/sec USB 3 memory sticks and converting all your other HDD devices to SSD and throwing your HDDs in a shredder where they belong.

Bring on zero wait state computing.

In case anyone forgot why HDDs suck in 2011 because we don't move data at 2 MB/sec anymore...

All good points. Thanks for the motivation.

As an added bonus, it appears my waiting overnight paid off. Micro Center just dropped the price $20 overnight, and with the $40 rebate makes it $179 for the Kingston HypeX. Looks like a great value. Gets 5 eggs in almost all reviews on newegg. Doesn't appear to have near the issues of the OCZs.

Ok, ordered the Kingston HyperX (SandForce controller, 128gb, top performer) and will gamble a bit on its infancy and relatively good reviews with minimal complaints on BSOD and other issues with the latest firmware that came out in October. Can't wait to get that baby, update the firmware, pair it with my brand new Asus Z68 and Intel i5, 8gb of ram, and hopefully be blown away at the difference from my old AMD Athlon X2 3800+ with 2gb of RAM on those old HDD!!!!

My experience with Sandforce so far has been that the drives do drop somewhat in speed after a few months use. I haven't had any reliability issues with them so far, but some of my colleagues have had issues. Everyone I know who bought the Crucial M4 has been happy with it. If it were me, I'd buy the M4 - I doubt you'd notice the speed difference in real life usage.

Yeah, but the M4 has the Marvel controller and the Kingston has the newer SandForce. Isn't the M4 taking a step back in technology? If you look at the benchmark comparison the M4 is nowhere near the Kingston HyperX.
