have had itunes 6 for forever and it worked fine. Every time i start it though it asks me to upgrade so finally i said sure and upgraded. After it asked to restart and i try and run the program it says "itunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration"
I uninstalled itunes, restarted, and installed from scratch but it gives me the same error.

what is wrong?

Do you by chance have it configured to output only on a specific channel, or maybe a multi-speaker setup? It'd really suck if this was the case, but it might have a problem if you, say, have 7.1 surround because it's just too plain stupid to detect it properly. Try going to basic, 2.0 output along the analog out. If that doesn't work... no idea. Maybe make sure your sound card is visible in the Windows "sound and audio devices" control panel menu.

i checked everything, i checked device manager, i switched from 5.1 to 2.1 to 2 to stereo headsets, all other sounds work, i cna play all my music and videos in winamp and WMP 10, i hear all sounds in World Of Warcraft, just Itunes won't load anymore and it doesn't give me details about the "problem"

Did you try uninstalling Itunes? Do so (do not delete your playlists and music folder, might even want to back it up before you attempt to).

You might get a message that itunes can't find some itunes.msi file. If that is the case then you need use the windows installer cleanup application. Wipe out itunes then reinstall from a fresh itunes install package from the apple website.
