I updated my dated Pentium IV HTPC for a modern AMD 4800+ (AM2) rig which meant new mobo/CPU/VidCard/Ram.

I managed to hook everything up and get it all to turn on by the first try (which was exciting as usually I deal with a few days of beeps and then nothing).

But!!

When I boot from the only HD I have installed (the same HD that was in my old HTPC) it quickly BSOD's and then reboots.

Now I have a sneaking suspicion that I will have to re-install XP onto this machine but I'd like to see if anyone else has any advice

It's christmas so I don't expect a huge amount of answers right away.

System:
Mobo: MSI K9VGM-V
CPU: AMD 4800+
Ram: Gskill DDR2 800 PC2-6400 (Model 6400CL5D)
Vid Card: Asus EN8500GT

Appreciate the help, it's going to be hooked up to my new 1080p Samsung

Merry Christmas AnandTech!

If your HAL is the same (difficult to check without a new install) and your disk controller is the same (that can be fixed more easily...) then you can do it.

If you've already disassembled the old PC to make the new one, probably best to do a repair install of XP (google it..) which will fix the issue and let you keep your old programs/installs/etc.

well i tried to do the repair but when it asked for my admin password it wouldn't accept the one that I always use

is the fact that my password is normally capslocked a problem?
