So I just upgraded my graphics card to a Sapphire HD3850 512 from an nVidia GeForce 7500LE and I'm having all sorts of problems for some reason.

Before removing my old card I uninstalled all of the nVidia drivers and after installing this new card I updated to all the latest drivers from Sapphire.

But now I can't get my sound to work, certain games won't play, and 3dmark06 won't run and just hangs at startup. I've tried reinstalling drivers for my audio device - no luck. Reinstalled 3dmark06 - no luck.

I'm guessing it's all driver related but I don't know how to fix it at this point. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Make sure you get the newest drivers and not the ones that came on the cd, Run driver cleaner or driver sweeper to get any stray files or reg entries. Make sure your PSU is up to the task, check its 12V rail amperage and make sure it supplies enough juice to the card, if the card has an additional 6 pin or 4 pin make sure thats plugged in as well. Run CC cleaner.

If all else fails reformat and start from scratch. List all your parts including PSU processor motherboard etc to help us help you.

See, that's what you get for changing teams... ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist LOL.

Removing all the NVidia related software, including NTune, deleting NVidia directories, and cleaning the registry should do the trick.

Then uninstall/install the latest ATI drivers.

Good luck!

Your sound has gone because the 3850 has it's own sound processor built in and has taken over the audio.
To change it back go to: control panel - sounds & audio devices - audio tab & change the default device back to your sound card.

As for the lock ups, what make & wattage is your PSU? If it's 400+ watts & if driver cleaner/ new ati drivers doesn't fix the problem then you may have to re-install windows as changing graphics cards can sometimes really mess up windows...

Let us know how it works out.

driver stuff :! if everything fails :! time for format and fresh install of windows :!

ANyways did you use driver cleaner pro ?
Did you do this :

1. Uninstall Nvidia drivers using driver cleaner pro
2. Restart and make sure drivers have been uninstalled
3. Install GPU
4. Make sure you have dx9c installed
5. Make sure you have .net frame 2.0
6. Install ATI driver Cat 7.11
7. Restart the machine :!

IF it still doesn't work then you have a driver conflict as you didn't uninstall driver properly :! then i suggest you do a fresh install of windows.

Well it's only useful if you're using the included hdmi dongle (as that will pass video+sound) as the regular dvi port obviously carries no audio. However if you're hooking your PC up to a display/receiver with hdmi then it's pretty handy as you get video & digital 5.1 audio through 1 cable.

If you have hdmi & speakers on your monitor then it will deliver the video & sound from just the hdmi cable comming from your graphics card (very handy if u use a hdtv as your monitor).

You need to Dload this hotfix so it can detect the newer cores for 3Dm2006
