Question "Upgraded" from an 8+ year old AT&T 1gb fiber connection modem, not faster. Anyone have the same thing?

Moved into this house when it was new Oct 31st, 2016. Fiber was new in the area, and jumped on the AT&T 1gb. It used to be really close to 1gb down, hasn't been for a while. We were one of the first 10 houses in the neighborhood at the time, it has since been filed with about 200. There is a LOT of new construction around us as well. I understand speeds will decrease when demand rises.

We have not been anywhere near 1gb down in several years. But I was hoping with the new modem it would increase. Ping would be lower, something. Here are pics of the modem, and speed results. Old modem on the left, new on the right. 20250111_120206.jpg1st.jpg3rd.jpg2nd.jpg4th.jpg

The reason it's not faster is because the router is not your bottleneck. You are likely limited in speed intentionally by your ISP or by some upstream device being at it's speed limit.

I see something that, at least to me, looks odd; your upload speed is ~40% faster than your download speed (666.37 down / 933.66 up). Via very limited experience, I have noticed upload/download speeds are usually at least closely symmetrical or the opposite of your experience, with upload much more intentionally limited by the ISP. That is, upload is at a much slower intentional cap than download. I am guessing your service is symmetrical. Maybe, due to a lot of active users, the AT&T system is bandwidth limited download ergo the slower speed down. Upload is not as heavily used (my guess) and therefore, wrt to upload, you are getting reasonably close to the 1G rating. I really do not know if upload and download path are physically separate but, if so, that would support my guess.

The issue is likely to be your ISP, and not the modem/router. You could try contacting AT&T and see if they can help.
