Upgraded from a 6800 GT to an Ultra

I just upgraded my GT to an Ultra and I am quite pleased! Ive had a BFG 6800OC , then an eVGA 6800 GT , now an eVGA 6800 Ultra. Surprisingly it runs about 10c cooler than my GT did. In a day or two I will post my thoughts on if I notice a difference when gaming.
 
Your shameless attempt at bragging doesn't leave me impressed🙂 And why the hell would you have a motorcycle in your computer area?
 
Played HL2 for awhile last night and there is no question that the game play was smoother @ the settings I play the game @ 1600x1200 4xAA/8XAF , everything on high.

More effortless and smoother is how I would sum up my HL2 gameplay.


WoW probably cannot be improved upon as its pretty easy on graphics...EQ2 on the other hand will love this little extra performance.


In the end I am happier than I thought id be given what I have read from alot of GT owners. 🙂

I am probably more appreciative of the Ultra as well since I have already had an NU and a GT.





 
I overclocked my 6800GT to an Ultra, it was pretty easy I just moved sliders! I notice virtually no difference in games, but it was worth it because all I had to do was move sliders... 😛
 
Well my Ultra does not OC much... I am able to get about 440 on the core and 1140 on the ram.

My GT could get to 400/1100 , not quite Ultra speeds but darn close.

My 6800 Vanilla could get to around 390 on the core and 1000 on the ram.

So the OCs I got>>

Ultra 15mhz core /40mhz ram
GT 50mhz core/100mhz ram
Vanilla 65mhz core/300mhz ram!

All told and looking back now there is not doubt the vanilla was the best bang for the buck @ $225 OTD.

In terms of performance gains going from the vanilla to the GT left something to be desired hence why I upgraded to the Ultra. Going from a Vanilla to an Ultra is a nice boost though...but it comes at a cost.

Its obvious that the Ultra is truely the ultimate platform for the NV45 as it is extracting pretty much all this chip can offer.

It really comes down to this for me...my Ultra runs stock faster then my highest GT OC and it does it 10C cooler. Aftermarket cooling to drop it 10C would run at least $30 and could run more.








 
400/1100 for every maker except BFG. Bfg's is factory overclocked to 425 core and 1100 memory.
My PNY 6800gt will do 417 mhz core and 1130 memory on coolbits auto detect but I scaled it down a little to 410 core and 1120 memory for more stability.

That OC is almost UEE territory. Not bad at all...
