Hey everyone, I got a problem. Last week I upgraded from a 9800 pro to a 6800gt, I formatted my hd and reinstalled windows after installing the 6800. My problem pertains to desktop performance. When moving around windows it will be out of sync and tear badly. Also when maximizing and minimizing windows, the transition is pretty choppy. Its like the effect you get when you dont have video/chipset drivers installed. but mine are all installed.

I use a dock called yzdock. with my 9800 pro it ran nice and smooth, whenever I had my mouse hover the bar it would magnify then when I clicked a program the dock would unmagnify smoothly, but with the 6800gt, when I click a program from the dock it will magnify/unmagnify at a low framerate. If I had to guess I would say the dock would magnify/unmagnify at 60fps on the 9800 and probably 10fps on the 6800gt.

Wierd thing is, all my games run fine, they all run better than my 9800 pro, but its just the desktop performance thats frustrating.

Anyone who has made the same transition in cards, have you expierienced this problem? or is it just something wrong with my setup?

here are my specs:

athlon 64 3700+
asus k8v se deluxe
bfg 6800gtoc
2x512mb ddr400
7200rpm 80gb hd
xp pro

I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks!!!

I similarly went from a 9800 to a 6800gt but i havent had any real problems with the desktop. The only difference is i have a P4 3.6 gig , a bigger hardrive, and xp home. Everything else is similar.

Sounds like you didn't properly install your motherboard drivers - in particular the AGP bridge. The generic mobo drivers that XP installs are crappy performers - just enough to get you running until you install the manufacturer's drivers.

Hope this helps...
